This section presents the representation conventions used throughout the manual to show Sermon Saver and DOS system prompts and your responses. It also briefly outlines the information presented in each chapter of the manual.
A standard representation format is used throughout the manual to distinguish the computer system prompts and your response commands.
Your responses or entries to the system are shown in a different typeface, for example:
A:\SETUP.EXE
is a user response.
Although we show your entries as capitals, you can use either lower case
or capital letters or any combination of both in you commands. User entries which are words or sets of
characters are simply shown in the different typeface. For example LOVE
or A:.
If you are not familiar with the computer (as opposed to a typewriter) keyboard, you should take a few moments to become familiar with it. You will find a number of keys that are not usually found on other keyboards. These unusual keys fall into several groups.
The first group you should locate are the arrow keys or cursor keys. These are referred to as up-arrow left arrow and so on. These are usually located on the numeric keypad keys, on the numbers 2, 4, 6 and 8. The numeric keypad looks like a calculator keypad and is located on the right side of your keyboard. Also on the keypad are the end, pgdn, home and pgup keys on keys 1, 3, 7 and 9 respectively. The uses of these keys vary somewhat with the software, but in general they are used to move about the screen or window.
You will note a group of keys that have letters and numbers on them "F1, F2 etc. these are referred to as the function keys. Individually they are referred to by the letters and numbers on their faces: F1, F2, and so on. The use of these keys varies with the software, and sometimes as in the case in Sermon Saver, with where you are in the software. Pressing one of these keys, when active, causes a preset function or series of keystrokes to execute.
The keyboard also has several specialized keys. There are two you need to be familiar with such as the <ESC> key and the <Enter> key. In most cases the ESC key is used to cancel an operation and ENTER is used to confirm an operation.
For those of you who jumped ahead to this section...HOWDY! Obviously you've done this before. Now on with it!
